Backstory

Long before much normal life was created, Xertok existed alongside many other angels. At first, he had been kind-hearted towards the life in the universe and loved to observe them all. He found them interesting, as they lived life differently than he had to. Him and Nuvo loved to explore the worlds of the universe together, seeing how different life and the environments were, and sometimes how quite similar things could be as well.

One day they both witnessed something they never saw before. A being taking the life of another, yet not for food, not protection...Simply because they wanted to. Now, Nuvo was aware people murdered for no reason, but Xertok wasn't. Nuvo told Xertox they should leave, nothing could be done about it. They aren't allowed to do anything. But Xertok stared at the sight, standing frozen and unresponsive. He couldn't comprehend why they would do this. And that twisted grin the murderer had...Did they enjoy it? Xertok unfroze and almost charged the killer, but Nuvo stopped him and took him away from that place by force. Nuvo didn't want Xertok to get in trouble for attacking a mortal, or worse.

But something in Xertok's mind snapped that day.

Xertok kept to himself mostly after the event. He even refused to even go anywhere with Nuvo when they asked. Nuvo made an attempt to comfort him in ways, all of which failed or was refused. Nuvo knew Xertok was still young at the time, even Nuvo was young. At least, young by angel standards. Nuvo had hoped Xertok would get better, eventually accepted it as time went on. Nuvo had decided to leave Xertok be, to let him choose when he wanted to talk. That only made it worse.

No longer being bothered by Nuvo, Xertok had more time to think to himself. And his own thoughts were making everything worse for him. He didn't care if they weren't allowed to do anything about what people do, he was going to do something. Somehow. He thought he would get someone to listen to his ideas. But the question was, who?

Not days, nor months, but many years passed. Xertok hadn't exactly done anything yet, but most angels would tend to avoid him when he passed by. Most could tell something was off about him. And he hadn't seen Nuvo in all those years. It was as if his old friend had vanished. Xertok assumed Nuvo gave up on him, and yet he didn't even care. He didn't need someone who would ditch him when things went wrong.

Xertok had came up with a plan, he would find someone who would listen. He would give a speech before everyone, standing high upon a tower. He made sure his voice was horrifyingly loud so everyone near and far would hear. He went on about how all bad people needed to be punished before they could hurt more people, and punishing them after they die wasn't good enough. Why shouldn't the angels give out punishment and save lives before they are taken? Why do they all just stand around watching? Why did a so called God not want to protect his creations? To purge the bad before they do harm? Xertok went on about all the ways they could punish them, horrible, torturous ways, awful things like what they do to others. But this made Xertok sound just as bad.

Did any listen? Well, yes. But not to his advantage. The whole mass of them instead vanished, leaving Xertok to his own ramblings.

Xertok kept speaking for hours despite no one being there. Or no one as far as he could see. When he finally went silent, he stared out at everything. Expectantly. Surely, someone must want to side with his ideals. But no one came. And he didn't understand why. Xertok looked downwards before hearing a faint sound. When he looked up, Nuvo was directly in his face and staring at him. Xertok nearly stumbled and fell from where he stood due to pure shock. He hadn't seen Nuvo in ages, why were they here? He was sure Nuvo of all people wouldn't be here to side with him. And he was correct in that assumption.

Nuvo told Xertok he needed to leave. Xertok just laughed at them. No one was here anyways, what did it matter to him? Nuvo repeated themself, but with more urgency. Xertok stopped laughing and gave Nuvo a puzzled look as he questioned why. Nuvo then informed him someone was coming to kill him.

Kill? Him? Xertok only laughed again. Part of him even wondered if Nuvo was the one about to try something. His laugh was cut off by a sudden sharp pain in his shoulder. He looked to see an arrow shot in it, and from his wound there was a white mist leaking out and his flesh was dissolving. Before he could pull it out, the arrow fell on its own and it left behind a hole in Xertok's shoulder which more mist came from, like some sort of strange blood. Xertok's vision blurred and he stumbled before slipping off the edge of the tower. He grabbed on to Nuvo who was floating, and hung on to them tightly to try to stop his fall. Nuvo looked down to Xertok then out towards the one in the distance who shot the arrow. Nuvo could see there was more than one coming now. Xertok managed to grab hold of Nuvo's mane which caused them to flinch and look down to Xertok once more. The look on Xertok's face was a mixture of insane and fearful. He then asked, "Don't you want to help me, Nuvo?" Nuvo stared in to Xertok's eyes for a brief moment before they shook Xertok off and he fell downwards.

Xertok stared up to Nuvo as he fell, tears welling up in his eyes before he yelled out to Nuvo. "Why are you abandoning me again, Nuvo!?" As his sentence ended, a portal opened beneath him and he passed in to it. Several arrows had been shot and missed him just barely as the portal faded away. It hadn't been Xertok that made the portal, it was Nuvo. They helped him escape. Nuvo never told anyone, they all thought it had been Xertok's portal. Nuvo had helped him after all. But Xertok never knew.

Xertok landed on something soft after passing through the portal. Soft, and yet...Itchy. He had landed in a pile of hay. Xertok stumbled his way out and collapsed on the ground, breathing heavily. His shoulder still was slowly being eaten away from the shot before. But then Xertok's body began to change, the white becoming black, pink becoming red, and lavender becoming darker. The other features of his body changed as well, until he looked different. Xertok didn't know he could shapeshift, but as if from his own panic, he did. And his wound healed as his body changed. This form kept him hidden from the angels, as he was no longer recognizable.

This was when Xertok became a demon, and learned he was a shapeshifter.
