Zynide tends to put on a tough guy act, due partly to darkness corrupting his mind and telling him what to do and how to act. His true self is more kind than one would expect, but he either has to know you to act more this way, or be low on dark energy which clears his mind.

He is a big ol' nerd. Years of being stuck having nothing to do but read and study didn't make him hate it, instead he loves it. He especially loves researching odd creatures. Odd meaning anything not the normal, even something like the species he is, is what he finds as odd. He also finds himself more, well, attracted to any odder individuals.

He has an addiction to eating dark crystals, which are what fuel his gems magic. He's reached a point where even if he finally stayed away from them, his mind is already damaged forever. It would be best for him to lay off them despite that, as his mental health would still improve without the influence of the crystals.

He loves when others give him attention, but he never seeks it. This is due to being ignored when he was younger. He just wants someone to acknowledge his existence, really. He sometimes views others as his "toys" and what happens to those viewed as such is an eventual, unpleasant, and unintended death. Zynide's reactions to the deaths is held back by the darkness that controls his mind, and he seems less remorseful than he really is.

Backstory

Zynide comes from a family of rich Gembounds known as the "Rainbow Gembounds" for their rainbow colored gems. The rainbow color is caused from a literal "rich diet" of ground up gems. Zynide too once had rainbow gems on his body. When he was born, his parents were not exactly thrilled like most would be. They were the type to get mad over something as dumb as if the kid was a boy or girl. They had not wanted a boy.

Not wanting to bother much with him, a maid named Auisa was assigned to take care of him as a baby. She was a Gembound with copper in place of gems, also known as an Orebound to some. Zynide was strangely silent when he was baby, it worried Auisa. But he was healthy despite the strange silence. It was perhaps even a good thing he was so quiet, as his parents got angry at Auisa every time he did cry as if it was her fault. She would often keep him in the room farthest away from them as precaution.

At around two years old he had started to grow his gems, they were diamond shaped and multi-colored, which contrasted against his dark fur. Auisa had been fired around this point for trying to speak out against Zynide's parents for not caring about him. He'd often try to get his parents attention once Auisa was gone, only to be shooed away. Auisa had been the only one who cared for him, and with her gone he would often sit around doing nothing.

Despite living in such a huge house, he didn't know what to do for amusement alone. He was lonely. A two year old shouldn't be so sad. It's not normal. But here he was, a small sad lump. Eventually he became more adventurous on his own and began to explore the house. He started to learn how to have fun on his own. But it was short lived when he accidentally broke a statue that had been in the family for ages. He wasn't allowed to play anymore, he was locked in his room and let out only for meals. As time went on, his gems had started to fade in color and the tips crumbled away which rounded them out. It was likely caused by a lack of gem powder in his food. Another punishment surely.

By the time he was five his parents had another child. This time a girl who was named Renna. They spent all their time with her, taking her places while Zynide was stuck inside studying with a home school teacher. He didn't understand what she did to get their attention. She was only a baby, a loud one at that. And yet they loved her. Zynide was jealous. Never once had he gotten even a simple hug from his parents.

Zynide's gems had re-brightened a bit, he found where they kept the gem dust and was sneaking some as he learned that's how their gems stay healthy. His parents took notice and hid the gems elsewhere.

Another year passed and Zynide's gems were dull and breaking again. Renna had her gems now, rainbow and diamond shaped like when Zynide was her age. When their parents were away and only the staff were there to watch them, Zynide would play with Renna. Despite his jealousy, he had someone to spend time with now. And it made him happy. He had to make sure his parents didn't catch him near her or they'd punish him. Some of the staff noticed what was going on and would sneak gem dust in Zynide's food. His gems had regrown and recovered again. Once he was older, his gems were more stable and a lack of gems in his diet didn't cause as much harm. Nothing unusual happened for a while.

Once Zynide was sixteen and Renna was eleven, Zynide's gems had tinted a dull purple making some look ugly in color. He didn't know why. Renna's gems were as bright as ever. When Renna got to go places, she always made sure to ask for things that she'd give to Zynide since he never got to go out. He loved all the things she would bring him, but had to make sure his parents never saw. Renna's parents would tell her Zynide was too sickly to go out. That his gems were discolored because of some sickness. She believed them.

Zynide wasn't sick, but his mind was becoming foggy with strange and awful thoughts. He hated it. He didn't know what was wrong with himself. It started when his gems started to stain and that's all he knew. He started to think maybe he really was sick. At least he had finished his schooling, he was done much quicker than average as he had been bumped ahead for such amazing grades. Renna however, wasn't doing as well with her studies. It was likely caused by her being dragged around places while Zynide had nothing to do besides study. Zynide's gems were still tinted oddly when he turned eighteen. They hadn't really changed at all. His mind had changed, however.

He hated everyone now, even his own sister. He didn't know why he hated them all. Renna was heartbroken that her brother had began to act so harshly and mean towards her. They had been so close before. Her parents told her he had developed mental issues and to stay away. That they'd likely need to send him away if something bad happened. What no one knew is Zynide's parents had magically poisoned him by putting small traces of dark magic crystals in his food. It had been corrupting his mind. They wanted him to do something bad enough he would be locked away, so it would be his own fault and not theirs as far as anyone could tell.

Since he was an adult now, he was finally allowed outside. No one could stop him. He had never been outside before in all of his life, unlike his sister. He was almost too scared to walk out the door. He had spent times by an open window before, but he never dared sneak out. His parents oddly encouraged him to go outside. They never encouraged him before. He didn't trust it. He was right not to. They were hoping he'd go at someone outside the house. They sure as hell didn't want him doing anything to them, but random strangers they cared not about.

Finally stepping outside slowly for the first time, his first reaction was disgust at the feeling of dirt on his feet. It felt crunchy and weird. He didn't like it. Stepping in the grass instead felt nicer to him. As he made his way across the yard, a dog tied to a tree started barking and trying to have a go at him. He backed away fearfully, but it was chained up he saw and sighed with relief. He didn't even know they had a dog. It must think he's an intruder since it never saw him before.

Quickly moving on, he came to a paved road and started to follow it. There was nothing but fields and trees in sight. They must have lived in the middle of nowhere. He looked confused to see no one else around. That is until he saw a cart of some sort in the distance. He ran over to see what it was and saw an old and scarred up warrior tiger sitting at the cart. The cart was full of weapons and crystals.

The tiger smiled calmly at Zynide and greeted him. Zynide almost choked on his words trying to say hello back. It was the first time he ever met anyone new outside of new staff. Zynide eyed the crystals in the cart. There was one that stood out to him. A purple, glowing dark crystal. Something in his mind seemed to draw him to it. He slowly grabbed it to get a better look. He looked to be almost in a trance. The old tiger chuckled and informed Zynide that crystal was quite dangerous. Zynide just shook his head and pulled a wallet out of his neck fluff. Why that was in there is a mystery. Even though his parents hated him, they did give him money. Likely to make themselves look better. Zynide pulled all he had out of the wallet and shoved the money at the tiger, asking if that was enough. It was more than enough, the tiger just nodded in confusion at Zynide, and Zynide bolted away with the crystal. He even dropped his wallet.

Later that night, Zynide was back home in his room. He was sitting on the bed and holding the dark crystal in his paws. He thought long and hard about what to do with it. He was going to eat it. He had no idea if he even could eat a solid crystal. Holding it up for a brief moment, he then bit in to it. It took a moment, but his teeth were indeed strong enough to break it and even chew it, It was a bit painful however, it cut his gums and caused them to bleed. But he didn't stop until he ate the whole thing. His gems started to darken to black, and then turned purple and he started to cough. He tried to stand up but fell to the floor disoriented. He coughed more, and a black sludge along with blood came up. His blue eyes started to become discolored with purple swirls and his pupils changed to cross like shapes. Glowing rings formed on his gems, like those of the crystal he ate.

He stayed on the floor, pained but it slowly subsiding. Renna had passed by and heard him coughing. She hesitated, but opened the door to check on him. Zynide shakily turned his head to look at her, his ears drooped down. He first had a look of fear, but then that look became a deranged grin. Renna backed out of the room as Zynide stood up. She recognized what the glow was. She had heard about the effects elemental crystals had on Gembounds. She now wondered...Was that what had been wrong with him all along? Zynide ran out of the room and stopped in place in front of Renna. Renna flinched and covered her face, expecting him to hurt her. But he didn't. He instead only whispered to her, "don't tell anyone". He then ran down the hall and around a corner out of her sight. He ran away that day. Renna nor her parents had seen him since. Their parents were glad he was gone either way.

• Known Abilities:
• Zynide has the ability to harness the dark properties from his gems and use their power. Examples of some skills are minor telekinesis where he can lift things and even others. Large objects cause more strain on him and he gets exhausted faster. He can't crush anyone as he's not that strong, but he can toss them for damage.
• He can create minor dark blasts that corrode things they touch, such as causing plants to shrivel away. His dark blasts are not strong enough to kill anything larger than a medium sized dog, and even then being hit isn't an auto death for smaller creatures, only repeated strikes would finish them off.
• His eyes are hypnotic. Not in a mind control way, but a sort of trance like way. Looking away would cause you to snap out of it instantly. His eyes were once a dark solid blue before they gained strange swirls of purple. Those swirls are what cause the trance like state in others. He can't actually control it. When low on dark energy his eyes return to normal.
• He can absorb magic to an extent with his gems, which includes magical attacks against him. He can only absorb so much before his gems are at risk of shattering, and due to having dark crystals influencing his gems any absorbed magic besides dark is expelled quickly and he can't make use of it. Dark attacks being absorbed can be used for his own gain, but he can overload and go mad if too much dark magic is absorbed.
• He can create minor illusions to distract others- Or entertain.
• Known Weaknesses:
• Zynide does not like using his powers. The only time he might use them is when in danger, or when his mental state is corrupted more than usual. He is physically weak due to neglect growing up, which is one reason he may rely on magic to get him out of danger. He has a bit of a scrawny look due to this, but his floofy fur makes him look a bit bigger.
